What is a 2× pcr master mix?

The 2× PCR Master Mix is a handy and easy to use solution which makes polymerase chain reaction (PCR) easier by putting all necessary reagents together into one tube. The master mix consists mainly of Taq DNA Polymerase, deoxynucleotide triphosphates (dNTPs), magnesium chloride (MgCl2), and an optimized reaction buffer. It does not contain any DNA template or primer.

This mix is said to be 2× because it contains double the normal concentration of these components. This means that half of the master mix should be added into each well or tube used for setting up a PCR reaction along with DNA template and primers. By having such a premixture, this saves time while minimizing contamination by reducing pipetting steps during PCR setup.

When you use a 2× PCR Master Mix, all reactions work under same conditions leading to increased reproducibility and consistency in PCR results. It therefore becomes very useful in processing many samples quickly during high-throughput applications. Additionally, the master mix also ensures better performance of PCR hence allowing efficient amplification even for few kilobases long DNA fragments.

To sum up, molecular biology laboratories greatly benefit from having 2× PCR Master Mix as it offers a fast yet reliable method for performing PCR amplifications.
